We could change the whole thing to a library article in the database relatively easily, although someone would still have to go through and tidy up. I'd go for the 'clean up and lock when it's done' option. Pre-drupal we used to have an 'archived discussions' forum - I wouldn't be opposed to starting one - but please open a thread in feedback someone so we can talk about how to do it.

So here goes - would that all requests in life could be that easily granted. wink

Yes, I agree it is an absolute must we archive threads as apposite as this Economic Crisis one. cool

I agree, it would make it easier to find important/useful threads.
How would it work though, would they be locked, or just put somewhere to keep them accessible?

RG

I figure they would be locked AND kept somewhere accessible.

It might be quite hard to agree when they should be locked tho.. for example this Economic Crisis situ is likely to rumble on for some time...

That's what I was thinking, at some point there is not really anything more to add, but interesting things we want to keep will probably be obvious before that.

I guess i am thinking now that we can split v. long serious threads, the way teh admin have been doing with lengthy light threads eg fave film, song etc. That way Part 1 etc can be locked and archived and Part 2 remain live. (with a clear link given of course). If anyone does want to access a post from an earlier part in the archived thread, they can do a C and P across.

I am talking about archiving on a Friday night - what a socialite i am. neutral wink

Stick them up as library entries under an author name of 'The Libcom Debates' or something, that way they can be edited down by members to get rid of the fluff, and mods can veto any attempts to re-insert silliness. As an added bonus, if forum folks put together a good list of these with the debating stripped down to the best and most relevant comments, I might even turn it into a printable A5 PDF if I get time (for that matter, it might be fun to include some of them in things like Black Flag or Freedom).
