Anarchist Summer Camp 2008

Submitted by weeler on 20 May, 2008 - 10:47.

Posting on behalf of somebody else - I am obviously way too cynical to organise something like this. Looks great though!

Hi all, the Anarchist Summer Camp takes place near Coolgreany, Co. Wexford this July 11th, 12th and 13th. The camp will be on a small holding the following should be noted.

1 Bring a tent and a sleeping bag

2 We are asking people to pool together for transport as parking is very limited. Ideally people will use either bikes(suggestion of bike tour from dublin), hired buses or public transport(details to follow) to the nearby village and we will ferry people from there. So the first thing we need is people to organise in Belfast, Dublin, Galway and Cork for transport. If ye post details I will pass them on to anyone who inquires. There will be a map sent on.

3 Lental Disorder have kindly agreed to cater. They do really good vegan food for low cost(ask anyone who was at the RAG gathering), this will save having to set up lots of kitchens. People can of course self cater and no doubt meat will be made available by some comrades. bring plates bowls cutlery.

4 The house on site will be available for emergencies and people with any special needs. There is a big room available for the kids should the weather get appalling. Otherwise the house is not available.

5 Volunteers will be needed for many tasks over the weekend so please sign up when you arrive. Kids area, waste management, toilets and site set up. We will think of more before the date.

6 Cathie is organising a series of workshops so if you want to do one respond by emailing.

7 Activities seaside, hills, workshops, campfires etc.

8 Absolutely no dogs, there are sheep on the land and the surrounding farms

We are really trying to plan as best we can so let us know in advance if your coming so we have an idea of numbers for food etc. online register will be in place. Suggestions welcome

And now to troll my own thread...

20 May, 2008 - 10:52

Its in a beautiful area....

20 May, 2008 - 11:02

If I wasn't flying to the US on the 12th july, I certainly wouldn't be going to this.

20 May, 2008 - 11:13

Heh, anarchy camp.

20 May, 2008 - 23:56

Im going to this one instead...

Quote:
Hi all, the Proletarian camp will be taking place this Summer hosted by the Internationalist Left Communist Internationalist Communist Internationalist group (ILCICIG).

The camp will be rediculously small and people will be excluded as the week goes on - a larger camp will be available nextdoor for those who remain outside the proletarian camp (non-ILCICIG members). We will be making regular hiking trips to the anarchist swamp throughout the week to plant our communist seed in fertile grounds.

Bring a tent and a sleeping bag (you are going to be outside and against everything, it can get cold).

EPIC WIN

guy, is this different from the grasskirt gathering?

I think its some of the people from the Cork branch. Completely different to the GG, this is a more social event.

22 May, 2008 - 00:39

Yeah a comrade from cork and the Cathie mentioned in the text (who isn't in the WSM) are both organising this. This is basically a piss up. We go to a farm, light a bonfire, sing songs, get pissed, fall asleep, wake up and then go for a walk up the mountain or to the nearby beach to work off the hangover and then repeat. Provided the weather is good it'll be amazing.

Nothing wrong with Lentil Disorder, good cheap food. Its a piss up in field with catering. cool

Fixed.

23 May, 2008 - 20:12

Actually that is very funny. But I don't think the hobbit/gollum yer alluding to would come within miles of this.

hi
i am the aforementioned cathie
thanks wheeler for posting the above. I do however feel it incumbent upon me to clarify one small point. It's true that when we had anarchist summer camps in the past they have been piss ups but it's not really intended as exclusively that this time around. I was happy to organise to whatever tune the masses played and the groundswell of feeling is that people want it to be good craic, family friendly and an opportunity to share practical skills. So it's not a heavy-duty talk-in but there will be workshops and there will kids, a separate quiet camping area, a gig and hopefully a karaoke/people's republic of disco, so hopefully everybody will be happy.

If you want to run a workshop, help with the kids space, set-up or clean up email me anarchistsummercamp@yahoo.com

otherwise i'll just see you there.

oh god how threatening, Tacks the 'platformist' muppet implying it would be 'unwise' for me to attend such an event.

We've decided to call it Organise. Without the exclamation mark.

I just wanted to build a bonfire, get naked and then jump it. If there are kids there we will have to dig a basement to lock them in first.
