Born in Iowa in 1938, Jean Seberg was an iconic actress of the 1960s and 70s whose support for radical politics led to her being hounded by the FBI as part of a wider campaign against the American New Left.

Though she had starred in respected films beforehand (for instance playing Joan of Arc in Otto Preminger's Saint Joan), it was not until her role as Patricia, aspiring journalist and American girlfriend of a Parisian thug, in Jean-Luc Godard's new wave cinema classic, Breathless, that Seberg earned her place as a cinematic icon.

Audrey Hepburn - Dutch Resistance courier

Born of wealthy fascist parents, actress Audrey Helpburn became a courier and raised funds for the Dutch Resistance in World War II.

Her father was Joseph Anthony Hepburn-Ruston, a wealthy British banker and Mosleyite. Her mother was Ella van Heemstra, a Dutch baroness who descended from French and English kings.

Her father abandoned her, and her mother abandoned her fascist views following the Nazi occupation.

Sharon Stone: I support the anti-CPE demonstrations(!)

Le Monde is reporting that Hollywood actress Sharon Stone has spoken to offer her support to the anti-CPE demonstrations.

This unexpected support came during a press conference for her new film Basic Instinct II.

She said she “understand the reasons behind the anti-CPE demonstrations completely”, going on to say that “the law is clearly unsuitedable... people have the right to know why they are sacked”.

Born in Kilifarevo, Bulgaria in 1904, the student-actress Mariola Sirakova belonged to a well-off family. She revolted from an early age against her social background and joined the anarchist movement at a young age.

Liz Hurley - filmed advert during actors strike

Hurl-inducing: Scabley

Actress Elizabeth Hurley was fined £70,000 by her union for scabbing on a five month Screen Actors Guild (SAG) strike.

In 2000 the "star" had the fine imposed by the trial board of the SAG for breaking a five-month strike by appearing in a perfume advertisement for Estée Lauder.

SAG members held demonstrations and film events Hurley attended, holding placards stating "Elizabeth Scabley, you make me Hurl."

She claimed not to know about it.
