South Yorkshire fire crews have accused managers of being hell bent on confrontation over moves to impose new shifts.

They say there is growing anger among fire crews over new threats to impose new shifts.

Firefighters want to know why there has been no negotiation with their union before South Yorkshire fire authority councillors received the proposals for consideration. The Fire Brigades Union has still not been officially given details of the plans, although full press packs have been sent to the media.

230 Sheffield steel workers to lose jobs

Finnish metals group Outokumpu Oyj said Friday it will close a stainless steel plant in Sheffield, England - laying off all 230 workers - because of oversupply. Its stock surged 14 percent.

“The market for stainless precision strip is oversupplied and this business in Sheffield has been loss-making for several years,” the world’s No. 2 stainless steel maker said. “The proposal is part of Outokumpu’s performance improvement actions to ensure global competitiveness.”

York postal workers wildcat strike to support colleague

Royal Mail workers walked out of the firm's York depot on Friday 15 December in support of a van driver who had been suspended.

Sam Southgate reported on thisisyork.co.uk that about 30 collection drivers and some other staff staged the wildcat strike at the firm's Leeman Road base, at about 3.10pm yesterday, to support their work-mate.

The three-hour stoppage caused disruption to parcel collections from post offices and Royal Mail's business customers.

Anti-fascist leafletters attacked in Morley

A group of Unite Against Fascism supporters in Yorkshire were attacked whilst leafleting against the British National Party.

Groups of anti-racist and anti-fascists including members of the clergy, trade unionists and locals were attacked on Saturday 4th November by organised groups of BNP supporters.

Nestle threaten staff with job losses

Nestle

Corporate giant Nestle has threatened workers with job losses if they refuse to accept a 15% reduction in wages.

Nestle has threatened to move more production out of York if unions do not agree to a 15% reduction in wages for its remaining workforce after announcing last month that it was axing 645 jobs and moving some production to other factories in the UK and Europe.

BNP meeting prevented by workers' action

Action by workers at a Doncaster social club has prevented the BNP from holding a meeting.

The BNP are attempting to organise in the Doncaster area, probably in preparation for next year's council elections.

British nazi leader hospitalised

Eddy Morrison, leader of the fascist British People's Party was attacked and hospitalised today in Leeds as local people opposed to race hatred disrupted a meeting of the group.

On a well-known neo-Nazi message board, one poster reported:
"Eddy Morrison was attacked today by around 8 red scum while he stood at the re-direction point for today's meeting in Leeds of the British People's Party.

Yorkshire teachers on strike over new roles

Teachers at a school in West Yorkshire are on strike today in a dispute about new staffing structures.

Pupils at Todmorden High School in Calderdale are affected by the one-day strike by members of the National Union of Teachers (NUT).

The row follows a complete overhaul of the staffing structure at every school in England and Wales.

A union spokesman said negotiations would start again but further strike action could not be ruled out.
